CITIES TO STOP BY

São Paulo, Brazil
Sao Paulo has one of the largest and best connected airports in South America, so you are sure to find flights in and out of there, especially if you are using LATAM! It’s a sprawling, high-energy city overflowing with bold street art, world-class food (seriously—this place eats well), and cultural mashups you won’t find anywhere else. And, for the design aficionados, if you visit in June you might be able to see CasaCOR, Brazil’s iconic interior design and architecture showcase.
Make it a longer trip and fly to Rio de Janeiro, where you can enjoy beaches, shopping, and hiking up the Pão de Açúcar!
Buenos Aires, Argentina
Although slightly longer of a flight than other layover destinations, this city is one of the Bride and Groom’s favorite places in South America for its food, wine, and rich culture! We recommend the city for a mix of grand European-style architecture with bold Latin energy: giving you salons and sampas, steak and street art, tango and late-night cafés. If you want to make it a longer trip and visit other areas of Argentina, we recommend going after the wedding for the winter season in June.
Make it a longer trip and visit Mendoza during the dormancy state: clear skies, snow-capped peaks, intimate tastings, and no crowds. Dress warm, skip the vineyard strolls, and lean into fireside Malbec and Andean views.
Make it a longer trip and visit Bariloche, San Martin de los Andes, or Villa L’Angostura for a cozy winter escape with skiing, scenic viewpoints, artisan chocolate shops, hearty Andean dining, and charming downtown strolls amid snow-covered mountain views.

Panama City, Panama
If you’re flying with Copa Airlines, their main hub is in Panama City—so take the opportunity to spend a few days exploring the city’s vibrant culture, the Panama Canal, and nearby destinations like the beaches, rainforests, and islands that make the country one of Central America’s most dynamic stopovers.
If you choose to make it a longer trip, Panama City connects to most major airports in Latin America. You could spend some time on the beaches of the Caribbean, discovering Mexico and surrounding areas, or head down South to any major city of South America!
Lima, Peru
If you’re flying with Avianca, consider stopping in Lima, Peru—its hub city and gateway to South America—where you can experience world-class cuisine, rich colonial architecture, and easy access to iconic destinations like Cusco, Machu Picchu, and the Sacred Valley.
Make it a longer trip and fly to Cuzco, where you can explore Machu Picchu and other historical wonders in the peak season!

Santiago, Chile
If you’re flying with Avianca, a stop in Santiago, Chile is well worth it. Set between the Andes and the Pacific, the city offers stunning mountain views, world-class dining, top-tier wineries, vibrant neighborhoods, and convenient access to both ski resorts and coastal getaways.

TRAVEL TIPS
-
People exclusively use WhatsApp to communicate, so for any appointments or reservations make sure to have Whatsapp downloaded and with notifications on!
-
Paraguay (and most of Latin America) uses the decimal comma system, where decimal points are actually expressed as commas. For example, $1,000.00 would be expressed as $1.000,00 - be careful when reading price tags!
-
Most places take credit card - but just in case you’d like to try some street food or would prefer to use only cash visit any of these locations and ask for GUARANI, the local currency.
-
MAXICAMBIOS located in Shopping del Sol, Shopping La Galeria, and Shopping
-
Mariscal Lopez.
-
Uber is available in the city and is compatible with the US and EU apps, but we recommend hiring a car service for airport transportation

LAS LOMAS
CASA HOTEL
Las Lomas Casa Hotel is a charming boutique property set in a quiet, upscale residential neighborhood, offering a warm, home-style atmosphere with the comfort of a high-end stay. Built from a large traditional house, it features cozy, elegant rooms, lush gardens, an inviting outdoor pool, and relaxing common spaces that feel more like a private residence than a hotel. Just a short walk from Shopping del Sol and La Galería, it’s perfectly located for travelers who want easy access to Asunción’s best malls and restaurants while enjoying a peaceful, intimate retreat away from the city’s busier areas.

ITAIPU DAM AND IGUAÇU FALLS
The Itaipú Dam is one of the world’s largest hydroelectric projects, offering impressive panoramic viewpoints, guided tours, and a fascinating look at how Paraguay and Brazil share its massive energy output. Just a short drive away, straddling the border between Argentina and Brazil, Iguaçu Falls lets you experience over 250 waterfalls stretching nearly 3 kilometers, making it one of the most powerful and jaw-dropping natural sites on Earth.
If you’d like to visit Iguaçu Falls, we can help arrange transportation from Asunción to Foz de Iguaçu and recommend hotels. You can choose between visiting the Brazilian side, where you get panoramic views of the falls from across the river, or the Argentinian side, where walkways take you right up to the edge of the falls. American citizens need an e-visa and a Yellow Fever Vaccine record to enter Brazil, so you’ll need to handle that in advance if you plan to go there.
If you’re including the falls in your trip, we recommend going after the wedding and then flying from Foz to São Paulo or Buenos Aires. Both cities have convenient flights to the U.S., though some routes may require a connection.
JESUIT RUINS OF PARAGUAY
The Jesuit Ruins of southern Paraguay—such as Trinidad and Jesús—are UNESCO World Heritage Sites that showcase the remarkable remains of 17th-century missions where Guaraní communities and Jesuit priests lived and worked together. Visiting them feels like stepping into a quiet, open-air museum surrounded by history, stone carvings, and stunning nighttime light shows.
